3. Joachim Waibel | Artist & Friend

Category: General

Description: I worked with Joachim for two years after graduating from university. He offered me a strange job—his art collaborator, his chauffeur, and the guy who brought us A&W or Fujiya bentos for lunch. We created more than a dozen pieces together. He gave me his Canon 5D Mark III as a wedding gift and made me a spray-painting master after hundreds of cans of practice (we used to empty the white spray paints in Home Depots and Canadian Tires all around Greater Vancouver). A friend of ours told me today that Joachim passed away last month. The last time I saw him was last year, before I left Vancouver for China. I drove him to a lunch place with vintage cars (he loved vintage cars and guns). He emailed me a YouTube link about old China after I left. Today, when I heard the news, I thought I hadn’t replied to that email. Fortunately, I had. I said I’d host him if he visited China. I don’t know how long this website will be available. Please enjoy Joachim’s art and story while we can.

42. Linux Hex Editor

Category: General

Description: For various reasons, a hex editor should always be installed on a computer. As the name says content is shown by use of hex numbers. The preview image clearly shows the reason for this. For example, image files contain so-called magic numbers that can be used to identify the format of the file or image. They may also contain metadata of different kind. All of this information can be made visible with a hex editor. In this case, a tile was examined with ImageMagic in GIF 89a format. In the past, hackers used hex editors e.g. to crack computer games by modifying parts of the code using, for example, a hex editor.

Description: When I had the idea of using my computer rigs for AI stuff like AI images in the first glance, I was looking for a quick start. At the time, I found this in Easy Diffusion after a short period of time. Easy Diffusion is well suited for anyone just starting out, but Easy Diffusion has its limitations. For those who are really interested in AI image generation want more than Easy Diffusion can offer after a while. If one just want to create AI images on the side, Easy Diffusion is the right choice.

49. Linux Boot Repair

Category: General

Description: Boot Repair is an absolute insider tip when it comes to reviving Linux computers that no longer start up after an incident like a crash. In the past, I used to reinstall the operating system when serious errors occurred. Then I looked into how I could avoid this and came across with Boot Repair. It is integrated as standard in some installation media. If not, one can prepare a bootable device, and use it from there. On Debian, Ubuntu and Mint it works for sure. For other Operating systems see the descripton.
